Getting Used to Being Back to Normal!

Written by Eunjeh Sung

Meal Program is slowly going to back to how we did things before the pandemic. We are excited to make and serve homemade foods. As the weather is getting colder, this helps everyone comfortably sit down and enjoy chatting with others and sharing a table together. It is very nice to see everyone together in one place and overcoming the distancing protocols because of the recent pandemic.

Even though the method of serving changed, our goal is still the same! The pantry has moved inside and still functions the same. We continue to organize the pantry items by section, making sure everyone has an opportunity to obtain foods from each: meals (sandwiches and various other dishes), vegetables, fruits, grains, canned foods, bread, soups, drinks, and snacks.

Moreover, we continue to serve coffee and tea. Volunteers were busy organizing and serving creamers, sugars, teas, and coffee. As the pantry line moved down and the amount of coffee decreased and it was now time for dinner!!

Community members situated at tables set up with utensils, condiments, and salt & pepper. As everyone waited, we all greeted each other, and even saw familiar faces. As usual, a passage from the bible was shared and concluded with the Lord’s prayer followed by another prayer by a volunteer. Another delicious hot meal was served with warm smiles and hospitality.

After a busy day, we helped clean up and fold boxes to recycle. Thank you everyone who came out to volunteer and help out! Even the smallest amount of help really makes a difference :)
