Stay Strong!
Written by Eunjeh Sung
Huzzah! We did it! Today was a very very busy day. There were many people who visited us today, so we did our best to cater to everyone and their needs! We even had new volunteers that had never come to the Loaves and Fishes Meal Program before. Here are two interviews:
Interview with Heejeh Sung:
Q: “How was your experience at Loaves and Fishes Meal Program?”
A: “It was really fun! I’m glad that I got to serve others while also being able to have fun with friends and get to know people.”
Q: “What was your favorite part about serving?”
A: “I really enjoyed everything, but if I had to choose one it would be getting to watch the community indulge in the food we had worked to prepare. It felt satisfying to know that all our care was not going to waste.”
Q: “Did you learn anything about yourself or in general from this experience?”
A: “I learned that serving can bring together a diverse community, as I got to speak and share good conversation with people I would have never been able to talk to otherwise.”
Interview with Sophia Zhang:
Q: “How was your experience at Loaves and Fishes Meal Program?”
A: “It was my first time at Loaves and Fishes Meal Program and I had just finished a race. Although I was sweaty and a mess, everybody in the program was so welcoming and helpful as we all had a common goal: to serve and give back to our community.”
Q: “What was your favorite part about serving?”
A: “Serving food to strangers was a completely foreign to me. At first, I was unsure of what they might say or do, but I was scared for nothing. Everyone there had came for a reason and my favorite part was when they would show such appreciation for what we were doing, and I believe that motivates and invigorates everyone else and I to continue this program.”
Q: “Did you learn anything about yourself or in general from this experience?”
A: “From my experience at Loaves and Fishes Meal Program, I was able to understand the joy and fun of working along people who are dedicated in helping others. In turn, I learned how much I enjoy the process of community engagement, and it will continue to be a great aspect of my life outside of school.”
All went really smoothly and according to plan. Alongside the usual burritos we served ham, ravioli, steamed vegetables, and fish. Thank you everyone who came today! Although it was a tiring day we really appreciate everyone and their work. STAY STRONG AND WE GOT THIS!
