Sharing a Meal on a Cold Day

Written by Eunjeh Sung

It is getting very chilly! Despite the weather, our passions and meals are still very warm. We strive to continue bringing in new members and to maintain a strong community. It was a very busy day on Saturday, December 23rd as volunteers organized pantry foods such as packaged vegetables, fruits, sandwiches, dairy products, canned foods, breads, and cereals. Some volunteers helped prepare the food by cooking, baking, and warming various dishes to serve while others set up tables, utensils, and condiments.

As the community members slowly entered the place and situated themselves, volunteers helped hand out pantry items and served appetizers. After everyone had the chance to choose their items from the pantry, we shared a passage and recited the Lord’s prayer which was followed by another prayer. It was time to get a meal!

After a cold day, a warm hot meal of rice, steamed vegetables, salad, and various meats such as fish and ham was served. Each person chose what they wanted asking servers to add more or less of what they wanted to eat. To complement the food, we also served various types of drinks other than water such as the grapefruit juice shown in the pictures above.

I hope everyone stays warm this winter and thank you everyone for coming !
