Painting Eucalyptus with Seniors at Drakes

On August 25, 2023, Giving Tree gathered art supplies and headed to Drake Village Senior Center! Giving Tree’s partnership with Drakes has started since the beginning of Giving Tree. Previously, Giving Tree frequently held musical performances and socials for Drakes. Both artistic and non-artistic members of Giving Tree volunteered, offering different talents in the watercolor class event.

We prepared art palettes filled with professional European paints, paint brushes, pencils, 300 lb watercolor paper, and erasers.

Each color was labeled on the palette.

The class is meant to be a part of a botanical watercolor class series, and this week, we started with eucalyptus. Every artist was very focused on imagining the most creative shapes and colors despite the ordinary eucalyptus model.

Through conversations, we met talented individuals active in creating art. Herb Pearce is an artist, author, soloist, and photographer. He has written 6 books and frequently displays his art at art shows. A link to his artwork

Some seniors brought their own art work to show everyone their craft!

Once everyone had finished their artwork, we had a time to sit down, learn more about each other, make jokes, and hang everyone’s work on the bulletin boards.

Everyone was so eager and there was no end to asking when we would be back! Giving Tree always enjoys their time with Drakes and will return on September 8 for Origami!
