Floral Origami at Drakes

Once again, Giving Tree joined the seniors at Drake Village to create art and community. Our volunteers started off by setting up each seat with assorted colored origami papers that seniors could pick from.

The seniors love sweet treats as much as anyone else, so we served heaps of muffins, cookies, cakes, coffee, and tea.

For our first week, we started off with a simple 2-dimensional flower and the classic paper crane. As I folded an example, everyone followed every fold with care, despite the difficulty of some of the origami figures. The 2-dimensional flower only required basic folds and gave those who had not done origami before a sense of what was to come.

The paper crane was more complicated than the flower, but everyone folded with enjoyment and expressed great zeal. The cranes were quite unique and had much character.

Thank you to everyone who came to join us in this artistic endeavor. Giving Tree can not help but always return to Drake Village to find ourselves laughing and enjoying the company.
