An Update on our International Tutoring Giving Project!

This project began early September to provide educational tutoring to international students that may otherwise not be familiar with the American education system. More information can be found here.

Here is an update from Jabin Lee, the vice-captain of the project and tutor.

“My name is Jabin Lee and I am currently tutoring a 6th grade in English. I have been tutoring for about 2 months and we meet once a week for around 45 minutes. We usually start off with a little conversation about how our weeks went. Then we go through our English textbook and I teach about each section and strategies to remember the sections. I ask her if she has questions along the way. At the end of each session, I assign weekly homework and problems to do for the next session.”

Here is an update from Eunjeh Sung, the vice-captain of the project and tutor.

“Hello my name is Eunjeh Sung, and I tutor biology. My current student is in 9th grade and takes a biology course at her school. Every week we meet for 45 minutes where we go over a chapter of her textbook and any questions she has from school. I have her read the textbook in advance before we meet. I find that it is easier for my student to understand material when there are visuals or when things are interactive, so lessons are mostly question based where she asks me topics she does not quite understand yet, and I ask her questions to reinforce information. I also try to make interesting and fun ways to memorize information such as the different organelles in a eukaryotic cell. Homework is given to review the topic taught that day and to prepare for the next lesson.”
